Task Manager issues and Virtual Memory issues among other problems

I wonder if anyone can help me. I keep getting virtual memory errors. The message says that my virtual memory is too low. I have set the virual memory as high as it will go and I still get these errors. Additionally, even though I have set the page file size high, it still says that it's running at 476MB

Another problem I am having is that my task manager no longer shows me tabs and therefore I can't view processes - only tasks. It no longer has the blue bar at the top containing the close button either. It just sort of looks like half a window showing only tasks

I recently found out I had a trojan virus (Trojan.startpage) - however this virus is only supposed to affect the start page of internet explorer so I don't think that's what's affecting the virtual memory or the task manager. However, something is definatley wrong. All that said, even though I have run Norton AntiVirus and "fixed" the virus, my home page for internet explorer keeps changing which tells me I still have the virus. That is the reason I want to look at the processes, but I am unable to since the task manager isn't working properly

If anyone has any remedies I'd greatly appreciate it. I've tried everything short of pulling out my hair...which is next. Anyway feedback would be appreciated. Maybe fixing those problems will fix programs from crashing and stop the computer from moving so unbelievably slow

I'm running Windows XP Professional, the computer is a 750MHz, with a 19GB HD and 256 MB of RAM.

Hi Jackie,

You're running Task Manager in small footprint mode. Double click on
the border of the window and it should return to normal.

As for the malware, perform a scan using ad-aware and spybot. You
could also use CWShredder.

More info about parasites:
http://www.aumha.org/a/parasite.htm

Download the utility CWshredder:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip

Unzip - close *all* instances of IE & OE, hit the executable and
follow
the prompts.

You can also download Hijack This from here:

http://www.mjc1.com/files/merijn/hijackthis.exe

Go here:
http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/

For instructions on how to use it; you have to post the log it
produces so experts tell you what is good and what is malware

Try downloading, installing and updating the
spyware removers from the links below. Run both of them.

Ad-aware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

Spybot S&D
http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?lang=en&page=download

If these don't correct the problem, then get yourself a copy of
BHODemon, available at
http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm .

It does not need installing - simply unzip and run the EXE program. It
is easy to use. It will find the hijackware DLL files, and give you
the ability to disable them.

Hope this helps.
