When running Task Manager I recently found unsecapp.exe running.

I am using XP Pro and have never has Vista on my machine, can I stop
this program?

It has used 26840K of memory.

Have you tried using Google to search for "unsecapp.exe" to see what
you'd find?  I just did and the first 4 sites listed were enough to
satisfy my curiosity.

So what is your advice after reading the 4 Google results?

I did Google for it and that was where I discovered that it was a
Vista program.

My question still is ,can I delete it.

SO where did you read that it is a Vista program? Obviously we didn't
get the same exact results as I came across this in one of them that I read:

Description: File unsecapp.exe is located in a subfolder of
C:\Windows\System32. Known file sizes on Windows XP are 16,896 bytes
(57% of all occurrence), 37,376 bytes, 37,888 bytes, 24,064 bytes.
File unsecapp.exe is a Windows core system file. The program has no
visible window. It is a trustworthy file from Microsoft. There is no
information about the maker of the file. Therefore the technical
security rating is 6% dangerous, however also read the users reviews.

So it's your call... since it's a Windows core file deleting it would be
pointless as Windows system file check would replace it when it
discovered it missing. The purpose of the program is to provide
compatibility with the operating system for older programs. Apparently
you are running a software that requires the use of this program.

Thank you. That's all I wanted to know.

Thank you.  That's all I wanted to know.

You should not just try to delete it, but you can prevent it from
loading if it is not necessary for your environment - if you don't
need it, it is a waste of time, memory and processing power if it is
running no matter how small the footprint.

If you are suspicious of the file (or any file), upload it to sites
that will run dozens of different, always up to date and popular
malware scans on it and give you a report:
