Table of contents help

Hi, I am new here and was seraching for TOC of help but didn't see what I was looking for so I was hoping someone could answer my question, Here goes. I have a large document with several appendices. I created the main part of the document but each appendix will be cut and pasted from a seperate file. The issue is that each appendix that is to be cut and pasted in has it's own TOC. I want to, if possible have it so when I update the TOC from the main document it does not catch every header in the appendix and create an entry for it. In the TOC, it should simply state the first page of the appendix and not anything else. Is there an easy way to do this. I have about 20 appendices I have to do. Thanks
