systray icons

Asussertown

I have lost a few systray icons although the exe's seem to be running. It
also seems that the machine complains as it is shutoff, but gradually shuts
off and then on reboot some or all of the systray icons reappear.

Right click on the TaskBar, choose Properties. Uncheck "Hide inactive
Icons" and see if that changes the behavior.

A

Asussertown

They were not hidden, they were gone. Hidden indicates they are behind a
window.

Actually hidden notication area icons means that they are not displayed
because the system is saving you taskbar real estate by not displaying icons
for services and programs which you have not accessed recently. It has
nothing to do with being hidden behind something.

I have the same problem.... when I right-click my taskbar and go
properties-customize and choose, "always show," the icons still do not appear
even though I can confirm the program(s) in question are running with the
task manager. I don't know why? Les

Unlock the taskbar and check how much real estate on the right you are
allowing for the icons to show. Just a thought.

Thanks Colin, I have tried that. Locked or unlocked I'm still missing 1 to 3
icons in my "notification area," even after a reboot. Also, just to note, if
the "Hide Inactive Icons" is unchecked I cannot access the "Customize" area
that allows the Never-Hide/Always-Hide options. Les

thank you for your help. I think this is all semantics. The fact is that I
sometimes have to reboot more than once in order to see all the icons. This
is some kind of defect, maybe with the video card, maybe with the memory,
maybe with something loading that got in the way. The previous discussion so
far assumes that we are working from the standpoint of hidden or unhidden
icons and in fact this is not the issue. That much I am certain.

I have the exact same problem. I usually have to reboot 3 times to make all
icons show. I noticed that the "Hide inactive icons" arrow does not display
no matter how I have it set. This seems to have happened after installing a
skin for "Media player 10" Winter Wonderland that came with a Desktop Wall
Paper changer. It is a really cool program but I am wondering if this is the
problem.
