System with SP2 Stops responding

lI have a friend with a problem. He is running XP Home with SP1. He ordered
SP2 on a Cd and installed it on his machine. Occasionally his system will
hang. He can make it to the logo screen and sometimes to the desktop then
everything stops. No Cntrl-alt-delete, nothing. I had him reformat his hd
and reinstall XP Home and SP2 and the problem returned. The only way he can
get past this problem when it happens is to do a warm reboot. Sometimes it
takes him three reboots before everything is up and running.
He has an Abit mb with a AMD Athlon XP200 cpu and 512mb of RAM.
Suggestions???

He may have a hardware problem, possibly a weakening power supply. Check to
make sure that the video and memory cards are seated correctly.
