System Volume Information folder - Access denied

Ak

Good day,

I am using Win-XP Home on my desktop, which was attacked
by Netsky.D virus or worm. The antivirus system on my
machine picked it up and deleted it. However, when I
turned on the PC yesterday, it prompted me that a virus
was found in C:\System Volume Information\Restore......
followed by long chain of numbers & alphabets. Since then
I have run the updated anti-virus several times but it
failed to detect the virus. THE PROBLEM is that this
particular folder C:\System Volume Information is locked
and every time I click on it, I get a prompt that ACCESS
IS DENIED. I believe that none of the efforts to check
virus in it have been successful as they are not able to
enter into the folder. Other than that, the PC is running
normally. What can I do from here, other than using my
recovery disk?
Your guidance would be much appreciated

That is the folder "system restore" uses
What you need to do is shut down system restore
reboot
this deletes all restore point(all of those files in that folder)
run the virus scan to make sure its gone
turn system restore back on

Greetings --

The System Volume Information is the folder in which WinXP's
System Restore feature stores information used to recover from errors.

To clear viruses from the "System Volume Information," simply turn
off the System Restore feature (Start > All Programs > Accessories >
System Tools > System Restore, System Restore Settings), reboot, then
re-enable System Restore, and reboot one last time. This will delete
all of your Restore Points, including the corrupted one(s), and allow
you start with a clean slate.
