system tray

I have an alert in my system tray that I can not get rid of. When I right or
left click on it, it takes me to an antivirus website. It does not have an
"exit, or close" option. Do I need to track this down in the registry
somewhere?

Provide full details as to what it says, the web site, etc. It sounds like
a malware infestation.

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

analysis, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Check for spyware/adware. You can use Ad-aware from DOWNLOAD.COM.

The icon is a blinking shield (blue question mark then red X) System alert
says something like system has detected more than one active spyware
applications running, to resolve this issue click here. No tooltip over the
icon. I also noticed now that I loose my default homepage in internet
explorer (blank page). Alert comes up about every 10mins or so. I tried
taskbar properties (always hide) but it comes back on the next time I turn on
the laptop.

I have norton internet security which is suppose to take care of this kind
of stuff or so I thought. I ran a full system scan and it resolved two trojan
viruses.

Website is virusprotectpro.com
