system tray icons

I have an item in the Startup program to be on the taskbar. For whatever
reason it does not show in the taskbar when I reboot the computer.
Also, the volume icon does not show in the taskbar although it is check off
on the Sounds & Audio in the Control Panel.

Any suggestions please.

Do you see a chevron symbol on the leftside of the tray area? If so, what
happens when you click on it? If you want the always-hidden or
hidden-when-inactive icons to be always-shown then you need to customize the
tray area (right-click on the taskbar, Properties, Customize, enable or
disable "Hide inactive icons" based on your wants. If you enable this,
click on Customize to figure out how you want tray icons handled.

Log off and then back on (not restart). That works for me.

Control an Icon's hehavior in the System Tray:

1. Right-Click on the Task Bar
2. Select Properties
3. Under the taskbar tab, click the Customize button
4. Select the program you wish to hide
5. Under the drop down box, select Always Hide, Always Show, or Hide
when inactive.
6. Click OK
