System Time not updated

No matter which time sync program I try to use! Time in the Vista tray does
not get updated unless I do it manually. Is there something I need to

The time is off by two or three minutes, not hours.

I found that you need to set from within Vista on the Internet time tab to
make it work - my apologies for the false alarm...

I found this reply I wrote on 10/28/2001. It is still applicable to, and
works just fine with Vista. I have added what may help for Vista:


"Windows XP, as loaded, automatically updates the system time every 7 days
from one of two time servers (more choices available in Vista). This
interval
can be changed as follows:

Go to Start. Type regedit in the search box.

Highlight regedit in the top pane and open the program.

Using regedit, search (press ctrl/F) for "specialpollinterval" without the
quotes.

Double click on the key in the right screen.

Click on decimal.

You will see that the decimal value is 604800, the number of seconds in 7
days.

Highlight the number to edit this decimal value to any value you desire,
remembering that there are 86400 seconds in one day, 3600 seconds in an
hour.

Click OK

Press F3 to find the next instance of the same key

Do the above for each instance of the value "specialpollinterval".

When you get to the end of the registry, close the regedit window.

Reboot system.

You have now changed the polling interval of when your computer will update
it's internal clock with that of the internet time server.

I've been trying to find out why my clock is out by three or four minutes
even after updating via time.windows.com both automatically and manually.

So I changed the server to time.nist.gov, and guess what? Correct time now.

Why is it so?

Using Vista Home Premium.

Thanks for the tip but one has to wonder if your system clock is drifting
that much that it needs a daily tweaking either your clock is badly damaged
or you are OCD and need you clock just THAT accurate :-D But seriously it
is nice to know how to change that....

NOTE TO MICRO$OFT: Put in option to allow update interval to be user
configured.
