system startup problem

I have a problem with my computer that I am not sure if it
is the bios or windows. Whenever I reboot or start my
machine I get a screen that lists the hardware
specifications of my system(like the cpu/ram/keyboard
enabled/mouse enabled etc..) and asks me to press F1 to
continue. I have checked the bios multiple times and the
show system information tab is disabled. I have also tried
the restore defaults option many times. This has only
been happening for about a week now. I did not install any
new software/hardware/patches before this started
happening. I do have a firewall/uptodate antivirus
running.
Does anyone have any suggestions to correct this from
showing and forcing me to press f1 to continue?
Thanks for your help.

Hey Tony,

Only thing that comes to mind is a lot of bioses, if they detect some kind
of error normally offer a Press F1 to continue, DEL to enter SETUP.

This is usually controlled by the first option off the bios menu, the same
one that controls the ide channel devices. Its normally labelled Halt On,
and you can set it to ALL or None or keyboard.

Is this a store bought system, or one you built yourself. Do you know the
make and model of the motherboard ?

Do you know if its an AWARD bios , or some other. Does the F1 to continue
appear on the very first bios black and white screen, the same one that
shows the bios revision and the memory test (if enabled)

The computer is a Compaq 7000 series, brought right from
compaq. Unfortunatly I do not know the make/model of the
mother board.
When the computer is starting I get the compaq logo screen
the information screen(which is just after when I would
normally press f1 to enter the bios). When I continue past
the info screen the computer just continues to boot
normally.
Thanks again

Hi,

This is more likely to be the hardware rather than
software. Sometime the F1 message may say why it has
stopped (e.g. memory mismatch, no mouse/keyboard found).

Do you see any other message before the F1 one appears ?
Last case rsort you could try flashing the BIOS to the
latest version (if you are comfortable doing that kind of
thing)

Tim

HI Tim,

Nope no messages that I can see pull up before the screen
with the f1 to continue option. The information on that
screen lists my main hardware specs like
processor/ram/cdrom drive and then at the bottom lists
keyboard enabled, mouse enabled.

Thanks

Hey Tony,

I just found this on compaqs support site, not sure if its relevant for your
system as I don't know the model

Go into the F10 partition. At the first screen press CTRL A this will bring
up a dialogue asking about ADVANCED MODE. Press enter to agree. Go to Sys.
Config -> config Hardware -> Review and Modify -> View and Edit Details. Hit
PAGE DOWN twice and there you will see F1 Boot Prompt. Disable it by hitting
ENTER and then save and exit.

Paul thank you SO MUCH! I will try this when I get home
from work tonight.
Thanks again!
