System slows after installing SP2

N

not

I have windows XP on a Dell inspiron 5100 laptop. Everything was running
great and then I installed SP2. Now my computer takes a long time to start
up and when it does it is constantly running. My task manager processes are
always at 5% or better and are usually around 20% and this is when nothing
is opening. When I do open an application such as internet explorer or
outlook or word, etc., the system jumps to 100% and bogs down. Also, I can
no longer do two operations at once, as one operation is taking all the
memory usage.

Prior to installing SP2, the laptop started up almost immediately and
quickly went to 0% - opening an application usually only took appx. 10% to
20%.

Also, the system idle process is currently at no higher than 20K when prior
to installing SP2 it was usually very high and always running. One other
thing - now IExplorer is very, very high 50,000K plus - I don't ever
remember it being that high.

Any one know the problem with SP2? If not, anyone know how to delete SP2?

Thanks

Please try some basics ...

Clean Temporary Internet Files, Cookies and other temporary files:
http://www.fixyourwindows.com/optimizewindowstempfiles.htm

Check for errors and defragment hard drive:

Clean Windows Startup and hidden Startup:

Spyware/Virus Removal and Prevention:

(Links to online virus scans on the same page)

Check Event Viewer (Start - > Settings -> Control Panel - >
Administrative Tools - > Event Viewer) for possible errors.

Good Luck!
