System running at 99% at all times

HI,

In the task manager, there is a system process utilising 99% of CPU at all
times. I have noticed this after I updated to SP3, not sure if that was the
starting point.

Is there any way to sort this out? The system has come to a grinding speed.
At times the screen just goes blank while working and takes 5-10 seconds to
get back (and continues as normal)

Hi friend,

I was also sufferer of this problem from the past 7months. I searched
all the internet many times, but didn't get the solution. Everyone
suggest for the antivirus update, which is always latest in my system.
2days back I figured out a solution for this(which works for me).

What I tried:
1. I used firefox instead of IE(It partially worked.)
2. Some forum said it is because of system is probing for the new
devices. So I disabled my "bluetooth" devices..--It didn't helped me.
3. I did full system scan using latest symantic anti-virus --no use in
this case.
4. I was working offline, without internet. --It is partially worked,
that means 60% of the time I was allowed to work. but I can't work
much without internet. If I connect to internet system.exe is eating
the processor.
5. I figured out the trend which the system.exe is eating the
processor power. The trend in my system is every 5-6min system.exe is
activating and consuming the processor power. I was observing it by
constantly watching the processor usage with task manager, and
whenever it starts, I stop all my work and wait for 2min. It slowly
releases the processor usage, once the processor is become idle, I
used to resume my work. It worked. But you can work for only 65% of
the time, and you need lot of patience (which I already have, that's y
I worked like this for some time.)

Solution:
1. Kill the process "explorer.exe" from task manager. And work without
the explorer. we can create any task from the task manager. Like
taskmanager-->newTask-->explorer.exe.
Kill the explorer.exe whenever you don't need it. All my work involved
either in browser or any application. So, I work without the explorer.

Probably. But first it would be helpful to know the name of the process.


Also, what is the make and model of your PC? What kind of CPU does it
have?

Might it be "System Idle Process"?

What's the name of that 99% process? It's not "System Idle Process,"
is it?

If it is, note that that's the name for the system not doing anything,
and is there to make the total add up to 100%. It's not any problem at
all.

This is an entry just above the last one, ie. System Idle Process. Under
the column Imagename, it simply says System. That s it. I suppose it must
be system.exe. All the other processes show an .exe but this one doesnt.

I wonder if this helps in any way.. I now find that when I restart, the
system is normal.. this System thing shows 0% and uses some 56K of memory.
I couldnt figure out at what point it kicks in and hijacks the system.

Hi my cpu usage runs at 99% under MS money. Can barely open the program. I
know for a fact that xp update was the culprite for my softplan program &
eliminated disk defragmentor. I took the service pack 3 back out, & turned
off microsoft automatic updates. My explorer runs very slow, and ms money
takes like a half hour to open. Is there any other process to make MS money
open faster??

Please - in the future - start your own post.

If a Microsoft update was the problem - removing said update would -
usually - resolve this problem. As you state you removed all sorts of
stuff - it seems that is not the problem - although it may have actually
exposed and permanently revealed the issue.

What AntiVirus software do you use?
What AntiSpyware applications have you used?

My first suggestion is to get and install and update and full scan with
these two applications:
- MalwareBytes
- SuperAntiSpyware

It will take time for them to do full scans.

Second - let everyone here know what your computer specifications are. What
processor do you have? How much memory? How much free hard disk drive
space on C:? What video card? Also - how do you get your Windows Updates?

Is your problem only with MSMoney or with the computer in general? If it is
just MSMoney what version and did you do the updates for MSMoney?
