system restore

I have a recurring problem with System restore, my OS is
WP. I get the following message when I try to restore to
an earlier point:
Restoration was unsuccessful
No changes have been made to your computer. System
Restore was unable to restore your computer to the
specified restore point. Select another restore point and
try to perform the restoration again.
To try and resolve this I have erased the last 3 programs
I had placed on my computer, in case they caused a
conflict, but this has not solved the problem. I have
cleared all the restore points and discovered that I can
successfully restore back once a new restore point is
created and there is only one; however as soon as a
second restore point is created I get the same incomplete
restoration message.
Any helpful suggestions would be very much appreciated.

I have Windows XP Home. I'm having trouble with Sys
Restore also.

My problem is that I'm unable to create restore points
and my Sys Restore page says no restore points exist
(i.e. no bolded numbers), and the only year Sys Restore
shows is 2099. Yet my "Microsoft Windows XP Inside Out"
book (by Bott and Siechert) says Windows XP creates
restore points daily and by default saves them for 90
days.

T. Strouthidis, my Inside Out book doesn't describe what
to do in your case or mine. I also
consulted "Troubleshooting Windows XP" by S.W. Sagman -
nothing on your problem or mine there either.

Good luck.

T. Strouthidis, try Knowledge Based Article -
302796 "Troubleshooting System Restore in Windows XP" - I
got this by clicking on "search microsoft.com" in the
overhead tool bar on this forum page. There are links to
several related articles on this page.

From what I can tell from these articles, your problem
may be due to insufficient storage space allocated to
System Restore. It may be a matter of increasing
allocated space or cleaning out old, obsolete system
restore files, depends.

Still haven't found anything pertaining specifically to
my problem, but I'm gonna try clearing out old sys
restore folders and see if it helps.

onward!
