System restore

My PC crashed and am having to restart in safe mode. I want to use
system restore but when I try it comes up with a message "System
restore has been turned off by group policy. To turn on System Restore
contact your domain administrator".

The System restore tab doesn't appear in the System Properties under My
Computer.

I have gone into Group Policy and disabled the Turn off System
restore.

Any ideas.

The thought occurs that you contracted a virus that turn off system
restore. The further thought occurs that if the crashes with "normal
mode" continue you are going to have to reinstall windows. But, there
is a posability that your restor points havent been deleted, you
should check that the system restore service is running. You could of
course uninstall or change back what ever you changed to casue the
crashes in the first place.
