System Restore Reserved Disk Space

Peter

Hi there, The default size for Windows Xp system restore
feature is 12% of a hard drives disk space. In my case
this is quite extreme, so I have reduced it to 6%.
However, whenever I defragment my hard drive, the drive
map still shows that 12% of my disk space is reserved. If
I disable System Restore completely, there is still 12%
reserved by the system.
Any ideas? Thanks for your help

The Reserved System Space that the built-in defragmenter is referring to is
the Master File Table Reserved Zone. It is NOT something used by System
Restore. By default, the MFT Reserved Zone is 12.5% of the drive.
