Try re-installing the System Restore interface:

Right click on C:\Windows\Inf\sr.inf and chose Install.
Reboot

Please describe the problem which made you consider System Restore.
Reformatting is drastic measure to be avoided wherever possible.

It does not sound like tinkering with System Restore will help.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

If NewScience's correct solution doesn't work, try this:

--------------------------------------------------------

Re-install System Restore

Have your installation CD handy (if you installed Windows from a CD),
or know if the installation files are on your hard drive in an i386
folder.

Go to Start => Run and type in (or better copy/paste):

rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
C:\WINDOWS\inf\sr.inf

Spaces: after exe; before and after DefaultInstall; before and after
132

reformat and new install is always an option
but there are others.

i recall seeing a script somewhere that would fix
the system restore feature.. but i will have to
remember where or search for it. But i am
sure it on one of those mvp websites..

however, windows system files can be
repaired if they become corrupted or replaced
by incompatiable files and drivers. The repair
feature also leaves all the other programs functional
as well, unless one of them where the cause of your
problem.

its easy to repair windows, just boot
with the windows cd, select new install
then after it tells you that it found an o.s.
say yes to repair it.

you should be back up and running in no time...

How do you expect anyone to answer that question when you have told us
nothing about your problems except "My PC is messed up." I'm not even sure
that you need to, or should do, a System Restore. Although it can be a
useful tool, it is *not* the solution to all problems.

Please help us to help you. What does "messed up" mean? Specifically, what
are your problems? If you get error messages, please quote them verbatim.
