System Restore Not Working

N

Nick C

I have tried using system restore several times and each time I get a
message that it was not able to restore. I have XP Pro with SP 2.

Is there a way to test my system restore?

How can I fix this problem?

An immediate response is to ask what anti-virus programme are you using.
These can need to be "turned off" as they can prevent registry chamges.

I forgot to add, I have tried it in Safe Mode...same results
Sounds as if it`s switched off . There is a way to test , others will
probably help ; I use ERUNT .

Especially when using Norton Anti-Virus!!! Norton support web site
"had" a KB entry on this problem.

I use Bitdefender 10 and Zone Alarm.
I uninstalled them. Tried System Restore to an earlier checkpoint a few
days ago, but it was unsuccessful.
I created a new Test Point, created a new test folder on desktop. Did
System Restore for that Test point. It worked and the test folder
disappeared.

However I have been unsuccessful to restore any of the other previous
checkpoints.

I will next try to uninstall System Restore and report on that

Zone Alarm causes the same problem as Norton Anti-Virus.

After trying everything else I decided to do an upgrade re-installation of
XP Pro. It also seems that there was a problem with the i386 folder. In
any case, my System Restore now works. And it works with both Bitdefender
anti-virus and Zone Alarm running.
