System Restore not creating automatic restore points

Charlie C.

When I opened System Restore today, I noticed that my
laptop had stopped creating restore points. Usually, there
would be several dates with automatically created restore
points going back a week or two.

I looked at the "System" entries in Control Panel. System
Restore was activated, and it had the maximum setting
(most room allocated on the hard drive) for creating and
saving restore points. I could manually create a restore
point without problems... but the automatic creation of
restore points has stopped.

How can I tell Windows (my version is XP Home, with all
critical updates and service packs installed) to get back
to work and do these automatically? Thanks.

Hi Charlie,

If Task Scheduler is disabled, automatic restore points cannot be created.
Additionally, SR requires idle time to create restore points.
If you are turning your notebook on for short periods of time to do work and
then turning it off, there isn't enough idle time.
