System Restore Horrors

Ron

I have a friend with an e-machine laptop, running Windows
XP. She was doing a system restore, changed her mind, and
turned off the power before the restore had finished.
Now, Windows XP will not finish booting up. Short of
reinstalling the operating system, and losing the hard
drive data, does anyone know of a way to get XP to boot,
so she can save her data files? Any help will be
appreciated.

Hi,

Have her hit F8 as the system first loads (immediately after the initial
startup and before WinXP starts to load). This should get a boot menu where
she can choose the last known good configuration.

.
Rick,

Thanks for the good advice...unfortunately, I tried the F8
trick, and opted for the "last known good
configuration...", but the startup files must be very
scrambled, because it had no effect. Any hope at this
point?
