System Restore Check Points Missing

I recently decided to install a new program, so I created a system restore
point just in case something went wrong. After installing the new program, I
looked at system restore and found the new program I installed had triggered
a restore check point and also all of the check points prior to that were
deleted, including the one I just made manually. Two days ago, I went back
and created my own check point, so there was the one created by the new
program I had installed and the one I just manually crated. Today, I looked
at system restore and there are "no" check points. What happens to these
check points ?? If I had a problem, I would have no check point to return
too !! I have the size of the disc allocated to system restore set to "max".
Also, from time to time I do a "disk clean" operation by right clicking on
"C:" from My Computer, Properties and Disk Clean. There are times when I've
had 3 or 4 check points spanning over a couple of months, so I know it's
possible to have multiple check points. What's up ??

How are you checking for old restore points? You have to select the day the
restore point was made and then all of the restore points for that day show
up, but not for other days. Have you tried resetting by turning off System
Restore in the Control Panel "System" applet or typing
<Windows><pause|break>? Under the "System Restore" tab you need to check the
box that says "Turn off System Restore on all drives", exit from the System
applet, then restart Windows XP and turn System Restore back on in a similar
manner. That of course will delete all
current restore points but it may also fix any problem you are having.

Suspect the program you installed is resetting system restore to prevent you
from
recovery. This unfortunately happened to me. (Granddaughter downloaded a
program)
