System restarting by it's self

This computer will turn it's self on whenever it wants. I've got just one
program set to awaken it, and that is for a security scan. It even resarts
with no internet connection, so I know it's something in the computer it's
self. It does this at random times when ever the computer is turned off. It
may restart immediately, in a few hours, or not at all. I do not know if it
is the base hardware, or some software that all my virus and spyware scans do
not find, or overlook. I use Norton as my primary virus protection, and
Microsoft anti spyware as my primary spyware detector.
Please help, as it has frustrated me trying to resolve this issue myself,
and I'm trying to not have to completely reformat my hard drive and start all
aover. I am a novice user, but I am a little knowledgable.

I have a Mach I mainboard in an HP case, with various parts from different
vendors, there is some Asus, but not the MB, or hard drive. This started
about 2 months ago. Can you still help?

I have an ASUS MB and a few months ago my computer would be off make an
uncommanded restart. I went on the ASUS Motherboard forum and found a fix
that I do not remember but I am searching the forum as you read this. You
can try searching also at
http://vip.asus.com/forum/bbs.aspx?...KE N'%uncommanded restart%') &SLanguage=en-us.
It was something about going into the Device manager and deleting some kind
of controller. If the above link wont get u to the forum go to asus.com and
work your way there.
If/when I find it I will let you know.

What program makes the wakeup call?

Hope this helps.

Here is the thing that worked for me.
Question:
Why will P5GDC-V Deluxe boot up automatically soon after the motherboard is
shutdown from Windows?

Answer:

Please open the "Marvell Yukon 88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethnet Adapter" in
Device Manager and set item "Advanced" --> "Wake up Capabilities" to "None"

Let me hear if it works for you please.

My Ethernet adapter was not set to wake my computer, BUT..... I found that
the dial up modem WAS. (How'd that happen???Haven't used it in long time !!!!
OOPS!!! Must have been when my nephew was playing.....). Thanks for your
help, I'll see if that cures it, and let you know if it doesn't. L8R

Well, I've ensured that nothing (that I can find...) is set to wake the
computer uncommanded, but it still does. Any more reccommendations, please????

I am out of ideas Jay. You may have to resort to turning the puter off on
the power supply switch on the back. I have a Belkin SurgeMaster that I just
turn the master switch off. Sometimes I leave it on and my puter does not do
an uncommanded stary any longer. Good Luck
