Is it possible to repair IE as it is with W98se?

When i run 'sfc /scannow' i get the message
'insert cd, files need to be copied to the DLL cache'.
If i then remove the cd and immediately rerun 'sfc /scannow' i get the same
message and a lot of referrals to the cd.
Is this normal, shouldn't the DLL cache be complete?

Thank you

When you put the cd in, does it find the file and do it's thing..? What
feedback do you get.

The cd is needed to replace the damaged files. that scan can take a long
time, and during the scan you will be prompted to put the cd in, and asked
if you want to replace files..those being the files that are corrupt. Let
the scan finish before you remove the cd. It will not give a log at the end
telling you which, if any files were corrupt, it just does it's thing and
then once it's done you should get a message telling you the scan is
complete..it's been a while since I ran that scan, so I'm not sure about
that. However, during the scan there will be a lot of hard disk activity.
But don't stop the scan or remove the cd until it has finished.

That request isn't clear.

What i meant to say was that i had just run sfc, i got the message to
insert the cd and then got a lot of cd activity, but i allowed it to finish.
I removed the cd and immediately reran sfc, i got the same
message to insert the cd, and again, a lot of cd activity as if the first
run hadn't repaired the system but just satisfied the system file
checker.

Also, if a file was replaced each time the cd was accessed there
must have been 10s of files replaced.

Why were files replaced on the second run and why so many?

Is it possible to separately repair IE?

Thank you

You don't know that any file was replaced on the second run. The activity
you saw was most likely the utility checking files. If you put it in, typed
SFC /scannow and saw no activity, even directly after previously running it,
I'd say that would be cause for concern.
