Hi:

I have windows xp home sp2 P III 800 mhz and 256 mb ram.

The problem started a month or so ago.

I have found and removed numerous intances of spyware and viruses. But
still the system process (in task manager) runs at 90 to 100%. It does
teh same thing in safe mode.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do about it?

Thanks
Paul

Do a CTRL+ALT+DEL go to Task manager and see which has the most highest CPU
usage...Once you find out and not sure what it is, go here:
http://www.processlibrary.com/

then type that particular process and see what it is used for.
You may also want to defrag if you havent done so...

GLuck!

This is a collective name for all operating system kernel threads; it is part
of the OS process so I dont recommend that you stop this task. Which doesnt
make sense is why is it taking so much memory in your system? I checked mine
and it only runs on 36K with no problems.
Questions for you:
- Which priority is "system" running on right now? (it should be in normal
mode)
-Have you tried tweaking your pagefile memory size for application?

Else, you may want to dload a utility called Widget program manager. What
this does is it takes a snapshot of your system at the time the program first
starts. This snapshot will show all of the processes, modules, and threads
that are running on your PC to make sure that you are not running any
"hidden" spywares at the backend.

Let me know. GLuck!
