System Idle Process

Any idea why System Idle Process always is at 90-100 CPU ?
When I play Counter-Strike or any other FPS game it has
minor freezes every few seconds.. its rather annoying.

So.. anyone know how to fix this ?

Hi!
That's quite normal.
From Microsoft -- the definition of System Idle Process:
"This process is a single thread running on each processor, which has
the sole task of accounting for processor time when the system isn't
processing other threads. In Task Manager, expect this process to
account for the majority of processor time."

The system idle process uses all the CPU time that is not used by
anything else. CPU time is like any other time; you can't not use it. If
you do nothing, you're still using time: you are using time to do nothing.

If the system idle process is using 90-100% of the CPU, then your CPU is
busy only 10% of the time[when it's 90%]. That's good, not bad.

The Idle process is what is run when there is nothing else to do - it is
like the system twiddling its thumbs, waiting =for something to turn up.
You normally expect to see it at 95 plus percent if nothing is going on

Greetings --

Break out a dictionary and look up the word "idle," sometime. The
"System Idle Process" metric is the amount/percentage of time that
your CPU has *nothing* to do. A reading of 98-99% is generally
considered a good thing, and readings above 90% are normal. Think of
it like a car's engine idling in your driveway before you place the
car in gear.
