System Idle Process CPU usage

Hi-
Recently I've been getting lots of freeze-ups. It seemed
to coincide with the installation of an internal back-up
HDD.
Checking my system shows the System Idle Process running
71-97% CPU usage, usually 97%. Is this the real problem
and how do I fix it?

System Idle Process is exactly what it sounds like.
It is the % of processing power you have waiting for something to do,
doing nothing.

If you are having problems, this is not the cause.

Oh, I get it. Thanks.
My problem is not speed, but the frequent freezeups.
Could a newly-installed auxilliary HDD have something to
do with it?
