System hangs when "Saving Your Settings"

P

Paul Osterhues

Hi -

Lately my Win2k Pro installation has been hanging when I shutdown my
computer. It reaches the "Saving Your Settings" part of the shutdown and
then it pauses for about a minute. I can remember finding an article online
about this and it said to remove a certain security update, but I didn't
document it and the problem has crept up again. Any ideas?

Hello Paul,

Take a look at the following -

315409 HOW TO: Troubleshoot Shutdown Problems in Windows 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=315409

If this does not help, then take a look at the following -

281770 How to Perform Clean-Boot Troubleshooting for Windows 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=281770

A shortcut to this would be to use the MSConfig.exe utility from Windows XP
on your Win2k system. Take a look at the following kb -

310560 How to Troubleshoot By Using the Msconfig Utility in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=310560

If after this you still have a problem, then you may be looking at a
hardware problem.

Best regards,
