System Freezes during SFC

Help, please. My system has recently started to be a little balky. In
particular, Flight Sim 2004 freezes the computer after about 10 minutes of
flight. Other programs seem to be OK and I can run the computer for hours
without problem (so the power supply should be OK.) In an attempt to fix
whatever is wrong, I have tried running SFC (System File Checker) repeatedly
but it always fails and freezes up the computer after about 10 minutes. Then
I have a bunch of file fragments left that Chkdsk has to clean up. Error log
and Dr. Watson don't report anything because the system has frozen. Can
anyone suggest some things to try to correct?

Thank you for your help!

A bunch of chk files after a check suggests that the drive may not be in the
best of health.. how old is it?.. does it run very hot?.. Xp does not take
kindly to internal parts that are not up to scratch..

You can run a repair install from your Windows CD, assuming it is not of the
vendor recovery type, but you will have to run Windows updates again after
doing so.. for more info on this..
