System files replaced

C

Corey

I got an alert when I booted up that said: "Files that are
required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by
unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability,
Windows must restore the original versions of these files.
Insert your Windows XP Pro Service Pack 1 CD now."

I didn't have the CD at hand, and canceled the update. Now
I'd like to do it, but I don't know how to retrieve that
message or action. It doesn't come up when I do a cold
boot.

click start>run and type sfc /scannow (the space between 'c' and '/' is
intended).
