system file is not suitable

When I try to start now even 2 applications I get the following message:
c:\windows\system32\autoexec.NT The system file is not suitable for running
MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.
Is something wrong with these applications? One of the applications I've
bought at a store and one downloaded from the Internet. Is there any
possibility to fix them.

Are the programs you are trying to run.... Windows programs, or, DOS
programs?

Do you have XP SP2 AND Avast antivirus on this system?



Study this advice from Torgier Bakken, MS-MVP:

Is there a reference to a autoexec.nt file in the error message?


The autoexec.nt problem is most likely caused by a worm or if you have
WinXP SP2 and AVAST (antivirus software) installed, it also can cause
this error.


You can put back the standard version of autoexec.nt/config.nt by
copying a backup copy held in %windir%\repair\ to %windir%\system32\
(%windir% is typically C:\Windows) instead of using the procedure in
the KB article above.


Could be caused a trojan or something similar, e.g.

Also, AVAST (antivirus software) can be the cause if you
have WinXP SP2 installed:

Thanks to all of you!
I've used a method recommended by Microsoft and it helped.
Yes, I have XP pro + sp2 but no Avast antivirus. My antivirus program showed
no virus. So the autoexec.Nt was damaged.
