System crashes + outlook 2000 oversized pst recovery

I have been trying to recover data from my old pst file. It appears that the
Outlook Recovery Toolbox that was suggested to me on this site is working.
However when running the software my system crashes and shuts down in the
middle of creating the new pst. I am not sure if this is the best fix for the
pst file so if you know of any great fixes for my 2000 pst file that is too
large for its parmaiters than please let me know.

My system seems to be shutting down when I am using too much ram so I
allocated more virtual memory space and it still does not work. It also will
not allow me to run my AVG virus scan software. It seems like I have a bunch
of stuff running in the background yet I do not know what or how to turn it
off. Let me know if you know how to turn off items or change startup items or
if that will even fix my problem.

Since it would not allow me to run even the AVG virus scan or the Clean disc
scan on the c drive I began cleaning out old files, docs, and removing
unneeded programs. The earlier avg scans do not show any infections though.
Then I did a repair and reconfig scan and defrag but it doesn't seem to help.
I now have over 27gigs of hard drive available. Do I need to up the virtual
memory? Is 4800 enough or too much?

Now in my outlook it is telling me that it had undeliverable mail and yet
some of the receivers said that they did get it. Every once in a while MS
office 07 opens and says that it needs to repair some missing files. Do I
need to reinstall Outlook. If I attempt it and my system fails I could not go
a day without it. I run my business through outlook and with my contacts so
this is really killing me.

Please help me with info on any or all of the 3 issues that I have discussed.

Eagerly awaiting some advice. Cathy

You can run Office Diagnostics from within an Office Component or via the
Office cd/dvd

The other questions are ones that should be posted in the group that
supports your o/s

You set virtual memory to windows 'handled'
What o/s and the amount of memory installed may have a baring

Depends what background apps you mean, if you mean the icons on the rt of
the task bar, rt click an Icon see what settings it shows, sometimes theres
an option to not run at start up
