System Crash after running Disk Cleanup

A

Anthony Smith

Good Afternoon,

I've got a Desktop running WinXP SP 2 that was running low on disk space so
I ran the disk clean up wizard. I'll try to remember which check boxes I
selected but not sure if I can remember all of them and exactly what they
said. There were a few for temp files(internet and windows temp files),
there was a box I checked for Catalog File Indexing. I think this was about
it. Well as it was cleaning,
I got some error pop us that said an unrecognized version was found insert
XP2 Service pak disc. It said something about stability of windows would be
effected. I didn't have a SP2 disc so I hit cancel. There were a bunch of
these pop ups and some said something about insert a disc for KB6XXXXXX. I
don't know what was going on, so I hit cancel. Well my pc started acting
crazy. I couldn't print from Outlook. I opened a web browser and most of the
tool bars were gone. The home page loaded but with errors. I tried going to
microsoft site to run the windows update, but it wouldn't work. Although I
was scared to do it, I reset my machine. And just as I expected, it
wouldn't boot. It told me some .dll file was missing.
I've got a Dell Windows XP setup disk that I ran, and I'm trying to REPAIR
the installation. Although I'm sure my Dell CD is SP1 and I have SP2
installed on the machine that I updated from MS. It's asking for an
Administrator's password, and I've entered all the passwords I can remember
and nothing lets me in. I know the user's password who is the Admin, but for
some reason the Administrator password is different.
Can anyone help? I didn't think the Disk Cleanup wizard would delete
necessary files like that. Any help is appreciated. I don't know what route
I should take.

Thanks!

Anthony

Then have God fix your computer. Or if he's not available, get George Bush.
I hear he's really good at "fixing" things. Just look at Iraq and New
Orleans. All is fixed there. Mission accomplished.
