"System could not log you on...

LRJack

I am running a 2000 server with AD and 7 XP Pros and one
2000 Pro.
I have setup up user in "Active Directery users and
computers userid and passwords. I have not set up
computers.
On the workstations, Rt clicked on My Computer,
properties, computer name and setup a user.domine.type,
example: jack.bigdog.local.
After loging out of administrator and try to logon to the
domain for the server, I get "The system could not log you
on. Make sure username and domain are correct, and type
password making sure correct case.

I am able to access server data files from WS
applications. I have I have 5 XP Pro WS that logon fine.

What did I miss. Can anybody help?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I understand that you are unable to login to domain from client computer.

Jack, Windows XP and Windows 2000 systems create computer accounts in the
Active Directory Users and computers. The pre-creation is not required.

Please find the steps to connect Windows XP to Domain controller:

To specify the domain for your computer account

1. Log on to Windows XP Professional as a user with administrator rights.

2. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

3. On the "Computer Name" tab, click Change.

4. Select Domain, type the name of the domain to which your computer
belongs, and then click OK.

If the domain name is test.local, type in the test.local in the Domain. Do
not add user name in the domain field.

5. When prompted, type your domain user name and password, and then click
OK.

6. Click OK when finished. Click OK again to close the Properties window.

Your computer joins the domain, and a message welcoming you to the domain
appears.

7. Restart your computer to apply the new settings.

8. Log on to the domain with your user name and password

Also make sure that SYSVOL folder is shared on the domain controller. If
the share is missing, domain logon will be affected.

Hope your query is answered

Thank you,

Rashmi
