The easiest way is to right click on the time shown on the systems
tray and then select Adjust Date/Time. When you select this, a
dialog box appears on which the third tab should be Internet
Time. Click on it and you will see a button to "Update Now".

At a Command Prompt:

net start w32time
w32tm /resync

or set th Windows Time service to Automatic start and look for errors
form w32time in the Event Log.

If you don't feel like fiddling with the Windows Time service try this:

Atomic Clock Sync

Thanks so much.  I did it, and I'll check tomorrow evening when I sign on....

Well, if you sync today and it works okay, it tells you so in the
window.

If you look at it tomorrow, do you expect to see that it is going to
have synced again? It normally won't look that way.

That is not the way it is supposed to work. There are some "rules"
for how the sync mechanism works, but of course you can change all
that.

It also tells you the next time XP thinks it needs to automatically
sync - 7 days. You may want to do it every day but if your system is
not having some other issue, 7 days is generally okay for most people,
but you can change it. If the time is drifting around the chances are
you have some other problem like motherboard battery. When XP boots,
it looks at the MB first to figure out what time it is and goes from
there. It may or may not sync when XP is finished loading. If the MB
time is wrong, your system will be wrong and it will stay wrong until
you adjust the time or the system syncs again.
