system checkpoint gone

Since having WD, all has worked well, no complaints. But, I note through the
newsgroup that people are having problems with System restore. My system
restore creates a restore point every time I start my pc. Previous to WD, I
used to get a 'System Checkpoint' every day (could be any time of day) Now I
don't get any system checkpoint, only the WD checkpoint. Has anyone else
noticed this and does anyone know why my system checkpoint has stopped.

Windows usually creates a System Restore Point ('System Checkpoint' ) on its
own about once every 24 hours duing a period of inactivity (i.e. it has been
over 24 hours since your last System Restore Point (SRP) was created and your
computer has been idling (doing nothing) for more than 20 minutes.
Many of us have found that WD has been creating System Restore Points ('WD
Checkpoint') on its own. Using rules that have yet to be discerned. One of
those rules seems to be at Startup.

'System Checkpoint', 'WD checkpoint', 'Software Distribution Service' are
all the samething, they are System Restore Points (SRP), they are just
labeled differently.

'Software Distribution Service' = e.g. SRP for Windows Updates on Patch
Tueday.

'WD checkpoint' = SRP created by WD when detecting, or deleting Malware, or,
as stated above, using its "rules that have yet to be discerned"

If you install an unsigned driver, or a peice of software that make
significant changes to you system you will often find a SRP with a name like:
'XYZ Software Installed' or even 'ABC Sofware Uninstalled'

'System Checkpoint' = SRP created by Windows when it is not busy AND a
Restore Point HAS NOT BEEN CREATED IN THE PAST 24 HOURS!


Therefore If Defender creates a SRP every time you start your comptuer,
Windows will not need to create a SRP during idle time because one has
already been created that day, by Defender.

Hope this explains it.
Now if they could just make Defender Stop Making "Random" SRPs we would all
be a lot happier

Thank you for your detailed and helpful reply. It has answered my question
perfectly as to why I no longer get a SCP, now I get WDCP instead. I only
get WDCP each time I start my pc, so it's not a problem. I got 2 yesterday,
but only because I re-started my pc. As I usually only boot up once a day,
then it doesn't really matter. Thanks again.
