system can't find CD drive

After upgrading with service pack 3 my windows 2000 system
can't find the CD-RW (drive D:). It is listed in Device
manager, but with ayellow flag that i suppose means an
error; it will un-install and then get found as a new plug
and play device; but the system cannot find a suitable
driver (error code 31). The CD is a Samsung CD R/RW
SW224B. Also, Outook 2002 can no longer find the incoming
server for e-mail, which is BT Openworld.
