System Backup

The newest windows update suggests a complete system backup. I have a DVD
burner on my system, but the info relative to backup refers to tape
backups.......

I do not have a tape backup available... Could someone help with a
reference to provide assistance in using the DVD drive as the backup
media...

My biggest concern is the ability to link DVD's and have the backup span the
volumes...

Thanks

XP does not natively burn to a DVD....XP's backup program does not burn
directly to a CD.
In order to backup to a DVD you will need seperate software...like
Nero....Acronis True Image..etc.
the chances are that if you have a DVD you have DVD burning Software
already..explore its possibilities maybe it has the capability of backing up
your XP.In my opinion Acronis True Image is a worthwhile program to
purchase..it not only can backup your system on a schedule it can Image a
partition for fast recovery...it can Ghost a HD for major mistakes..it can
start your PC without the XP OS and restore a backup/image in an emergency.
The XP backup program can create a backup onto a folder on your HD and then
you could use your DVD burning software to burn that file to a DVD.....most
of this type of software has the capabilities to span across multiple DVD,s
