SyncToy v2.0 Network

does anyone know if there is a way to change the left folder address?

my network changed and the computer name/address i had set up in SyncToy was
(\\Home\c\etc...) but now doesn't work and i have to use the
address(\\192.168.0.109\c\) (i don't know why it doesn't work) but is there
any way to update SyncToy with the new address so i don't have to re-set up
all my file subfolder exclusions and settings? (there are a lot of them)

Thanks

Perhaps you just need to make Home resolve to 192.169.0.109 on the
machine you are running Synctoy on.

Maybe if you were to add the line below:
192.169.0.109 Home
to your %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file?

Although why it is not resolving this already, if it was working before,
is another thing. Did the machine Home change its IP number? Even if it
did, if browsing or WINS is working, it should eventually be found at the
new IP (it can sometimes take quite a few minutes to show up, though).

What happens if you do (in a cmd window): ping home

I added the line 192.168.0.109 home
and the ping went threw so i tried SyncToy and it worked:)
i don't know why it quit as i was using my routers DHCP for all ip address
but it quit when i upgraded to a gigabit network including the router and i
think it must have installed some kind of security setting as after that i
had to change some settings to enable shared files again.
now if i could only get windows to see all the computers in my workgroup
it's a mess because i have 3x Win Xp and 1 Vista x64 and 2 Network printers
on the same network and they dodn't like talking/sharing things with vista's
permisions settings?

i am hoping Vista SP1 will fix some networking stuff
but i can't even seem to get it installed (some error code) may be
incompatable driver? i don't know will have to try it again and see

anyway thanks for the info

I have never found a way to change the folder addresses. In my case it
was just the addition of a new disk that moved most of my previous disks
to the next higher letter. So you don't need a network to run into this
problem.

I suspect that SyncToy2 will make it harder to implement this, because
it keeps its records in an SQL database, and I bet that the drive
letters (and network names) find their way into that database.

Synctoy1 kept its data in the root of the folder being backed up, so it
had no need to include its location.

Synctoy 2.0 will still keep the folder paths for the pairs in a bin file in
your app data folder, except the paths are still not modifiable. However, in
the case that you describe below, it will automatically fix up your folder
pairs to go to the correct drive letter. You should try it out and see if
that doesn't work for you.
