Synchronizing & editing music clips

Quick entro: I recently had my home movies digitalized and transfered to AVI
format. I was quite dissappointed at the quality, so I decided not to
continue the process (editing) with the company that converted my film. By
happenstance, I discovered that I have Windows Movie Maker software. I have
Windows XP and I believe I have WMM2. After several weeks of frustration, I
have been unsuccessful at finalizing an asthetically pleasing project. I
have managed to grasp the video editing aspect. To my dismay, I had to cut
quite a bit of footage so my storyboard are very choppy. When I try to
synchronize music clips as background, I seem to struggle with getting
seamless segues. I'll get a beautiful music transition along the way, but
if/when I tweak (nudge) it completely throws off everything - including the
video sequence. CALGON!!! Anyway, this is my introduction complaint and
query. Basically I need to figure out how to edit my music clips independent
from the videos - video that as I mentioned is unfortunately -very- choppy
(main reason why I was dissatisfied with the company I used initially). I'm
so glad there is a site devoted to WMM. I look forward to your thoughts.

Home movies as in 8mm or VHS?

If the audio you are referring to is included
in the Video you can drag another copy of the
video to the Movie Maker Audio/Music track
and it will be independent of the Video - Audio
track.
