synchronization with microsoft exchange server

I can sync all my offline folder except my sent items
folder. The folder is set to sync, and I have made a
new .ost folder, and that didn't help. All the other
folders I want to sync do except that one. The log shows
the following:

16:38:35 Synchronizing Folder 'Sent Items'
16:38:36 Error synchronizing folder
16:38:36 [80004005-501-50A-550]
16:38:36 The client operation failed.

At that support link, I've done everything but step 3,
which is to replace damaged Exchange Server support
files, which I'm hesitant to do because everything else
syncs ok.

Any suggestions as to what the problem is with the sent
items folder?

Thanks

Brian,
I agree that it's probably something in the sent items
folder, or the folder iteself. Unfortunately, I can't
think of an easy way to find it other than trial and
error. Here's what I'd try:
1. Create a temporary folder named whatever you like at
the root of mailbox (not under the sent items folder) and
move all the items in the sent items folder there and try
to resynch. If it's sucessful, then it's definately
caused by the contents of the sent items folder and not
the folder itself.
2. If #1 fails to synch after temporarily moving all the
items out of the folder, try starting Outlook from Start -
Run
Outlook.exe /resetfolders
then retry the synch. If sucessful, move the items back
and resynch
3. If #1 synchs fine, then it's definately one (or more)
of the items in the sent items folder. At this point I'd
delete what I could out of the temporary folder and copy
the remainder back to the sent items folder and retry the
synch. If it failed, I'd move approximately half back to
the temp folder and resynch. I'd then repeat this process
until you narrowed it down to the affending item.
Hopefully the folder is not too full. Time consuming I
know.

I'd open the sent folder in online mode and move the html messages and
messages with attachments to a new folder and see if it syncs. The error is
fairly common with AV software installed on the server, although when that's
the cause, it usually affects all folders. once you get rid of the "bad"
message, it will sync.

Ok, did the move the items to a different folder thing,
and the sync worked, but to narrow it down to the
offending items preventing the sync, I just got rid of
many of the old sent items, deleting them or moving them
to the archive folder. Then I printed the list of what
was in the sent items folder both when online and
offline. Then I could compare which were not sync-ing
correctly. Since there were only a few, and I didn't need
them, I deleted them. That did the trick.

I could have saved some of the detective work if I had
realized that it was probably RECENT items that were the
trouble, as this issue had just developed.

Thanks for the help!
