Synch OST file without opening Outlook?

Can you set Outlook to synch it's offline file to Exchange without opening
Outlook? Can you set it for every x minutes?

We have several users with laptops that will be connecting to a Terminal
Services session both in and out of the office. I'd like them to have the
ability to open their local laptop copy of Outlook while unable to connect
to the Internet / Network and see the latest Exchange data since they left
the office. I do not want them to need to open Outlook outside of their
Terminal Services session while at the office. Even if I could give them an
icon they could click before leaving the office that would update the ost...

Any ideas, solutions?

Thank you!

Outlook would need to be open and there would need to be a connection to the
Exchange server via VPN, RCP/HTTP, etc

If they are logging into Terminal Services then why not have them open
Outlook from their TS Session? Not sure what you are trying to get to here
but my understanding is that Outlook must be opened before any
synchronization can occur with the Offline File. You might also consider
Outlook with VPN solution to synch their Offline File or RPC over HTTP if
you have Exchange 2003 and OL2003. You can also set the time of
sychronization by going to the Send/Receive Settings.

terminal services. It will work like a charm if I have them open Outlook on
their laptop before they leave and have them synch. We are hoping to find a
way to avoid that. A way to have Outlook synch it's ost to Exchange without
needing to be opened by the user. I know it's a long shot... I was just
hoping there was a way to do it.

That's really like asking if you can update a Word document without opening
Word.
