symbols and tools

I am new to Word 2003, I have used word perfect and had brief training. I
would like to know a good place to find explanations or pictures telling what
the symbols mean in Word. Like on the ruler there are some moveable markers
what do they mean. There are symbols that show on documents etc. Some of
these things I would not even begin to know what to call them.

A lot of the symbols are explained in
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NonPrintChars.htm.

The use of the ruler markers is explained in
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/UsingRulers.htm.

This article has some more things, such as the various kinds of underlines with
special meanings: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=901125. Near the bottom of
that page is a link to
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word/HP030894821033.aspx which is also
available in the Help topic with the interesting title "I see something unusual
in my document".
