Symantec Unistallation Problems

Hello,
I am working with a Compaq Presario laptop. The laptop is fully
patched running XP Home with SP2. The preloaded antivirus software
that came with the machine (Norton Antivirus) expired so I am
attempting to install Symantec Corporate AntiVirus (the school that I
work for has a site license for all students) so that the user has
virus protection. I ran the uninstall for Norton and all of its
associated files (such as live update). I then installed Symantec and
it appeared to work fine, but Live Update would not work. Needless to
say, i attempted unistalling Symantec, and this did not work. I then
went online to Symantec's Website
(http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...ew=docid&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl=&seg=)
and followed the instructions there. I have removed everything
connected with Symantec but whenever I right-click on an icon in
Windows or when i do several other commands (ex. Deleting files) a
Windows Installer Dialogue Box pops up that says "Symantec Antivirus".
I want to know where this .exe file is located on my system, and get
rid of it. I cant let it finish because it doesnt work, and i cant try
and reinstall because it pops up there to.

You don't say what Verion of Nav you are trying to remove - though the
Link does take me to version 10.

Are you sure this is the version that you have removed?

Have you tried the SYMNRT Product

SymNRT is a program that can remove some Norton software from your
computer. SymNRT runs on Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows 2000, and
Windows XP.

SymNRT should be used only if you have tried to uninstall the Norton
program using Windows Add/Remove Programs and that did not work.

Will SymNRT work for you?
SymNRT will remove these--and only these--Norton programs:

Norton AntiVirus 2004/2005/2006
Norton AntiVirus Professional 2004
Norton AntiVirus 3, 5 and 10 User Pack 2004/2005/2006
Norton SystemWorks 2004/2005 Professional Edition
Norton SystemWorks 2005/2005/2006 Premier
Norton SystemWorks 2006
Norton SystemWorks 2006 Basic Edition
Norton Password Manager 2004
Norton Internet Security 2004/2005/2006
Norton Internet Security 5 and 10 User Pack 2004/2005/2006
Norton Personal Firewall 2004/2005/2006
Norton AntiSpam 2004/2005/2006
Ghost 2003 or Ghost Version 9.0
Norton Ghost 10.0

Live Update and Live Reg are listed separately in Add/Remove Programs so
when you uninstall Norton you need to go back and uninstall these after
uninstalling Norton if they still appear. Live Update used to require
separate uninstalling. You can also run live check for technical problems
at:
http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/home_homeoffice/index_ts.html?src=hho_us

Recommend that you run the live tech check above first.
