switching users - Outlook won't connect

I have a computer that on which I needed to create a new user profile.
I set up Outlook on the new profile with the same email account, but
it gives me an error when retrieveing mail. I have Outlook 2000. I
have checked the account settings several times. I can retrieve the
email if i set up the account on another computer. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Peter

What is the error? Does the old user profile still exist and can it still
connect?

It just says "Cannot connect to server." I noticed this morning that
it happens when I log off of XP, then back on under the same user
profile or a different one, including the old one. It does not happen
when I shut down completely. In other words, if I turn the computer
on, Outlooks works fine. We just switched servers in the office and
this seems to happen on all workstations. Maybe it is not an Outlook
issue, but something to do with our new server. I don't know, but any
thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Peter

As a lark, start up the computer and wait 10 minutes before starting
Outlook. Does Outlook still work fine?

Also, when Outlook doesn't work, what happens if you go to Start - Run -
'telnet <name of pop server> 110' and hit enter?

Thank you for your replies. I'll have to wait until Monday morning a
work to try your suggestions.

I am having the same issue on my system. I'm not sure when it started. I
recently was able to get high speed at my house and that is when I noticed
it. I was using dial up before that for about a year and a half. Prior to
that, I did have high speed and was not having this trouble. As long as I
stay logged to only one account it works. As soon as I log off and log back
on as anyone else, it doesn't work.

I have to re-boot to get my e-mail going again. I would love to find the
answer. I was not able to find anything at the microsoft site. But it is
like trying to fine a needle in a hay stack.
