Switching default email program - How to

R

Richard

Hi All,

I prefer to use WebMail.us under Firefox rather than OE or Outlook.
For sending and receiving emails, that works fine.

But if I click on a link whose action is mailto:xxx, Outlook opens.
My workaround is to close Outlook and copy the address in mailto to
Firefox.

However, |Start | Set Program Access and Defaults" looks like I
should be able to change the mailto response. But none of the
choices, Microsoft, Other, etc. allow me to get mailto to open Firefox
running Webmail.us?

Did I overlook something?

TIA,
Richard

I could be mistaken, but I think that option only works under an email
program like Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape, Eudora, etc. And I
don't think it works for web based email. Although it wouldn't surprise
me if somebody made a hack for this. ;)

By default, you can set as the default mail client, only software
applications running on the computer. Try googling for "default mail client"
+ windows for some possible registry hacks, which you would of course use at
your own risk.

Thanks, Bill and LANwench, for your ideas. Now that I think about
it, I should really ask WebMail.us. I'll post back if I learn
anything interesting.

Best wishes,
Richard
