Switching Between Speakers

I have a set of desktop speakers and I also run a set of auxiliary speakers
from my stereo system.
I would like to be able to simply switch between the desktop speakers and
the auxiliary stereo system speakers. However, when I plug the desktop
speakers into my PC, these take precedence over the auxiliary speakers. The
only way I can seem to use the auxiliary speakers is to unplug the desktop
speakers from the PC.
Is there some easy way to regularly switch between and select which speakers
the PC uses depending on my preference (i.e. desktop or auxiliary)?
Windows XP is my operating system.

Get a speaker switch unit. Sometimes these are available for switching
between speaker and headphones in inexpensive gaming packs.
