SWF in Powerpoint

Thanks Lucy
Can put the URL in the movie field. What about embed, loop, quality and
other properties that were available in the 'custom' properties dialogue box
according to flashgeek?

Do you have an "embed" line in the properties? If so, put the file path
there.

Using the RCB inbuilt converter, this has been saved as a swf file.

Those are in that properties list. (I looked this time! lol ) You should be
able to set them using the True/False options and such.

So, looking at http://www.flashgeek.com/tutorials/02_embed_08.asp, we have

Quality Best.
Scale ShowAll
Align is blank
Window Mode is Window

Play
Loop
Show Menu
Embed

are all checked.

So, in the Shockwave Flash Control properties, you'd specify settings. Most
of them will be correct by default.

Quality = 1 (default)
Quality = High (default)

Now, I can't get that to go to "Best." High seems to be best. By changing
the Quality numbers from 0 to 4, I can get different options in Quality 2
from High to Low. I'd go for 1. Different versions of the control might have
different options here.

Scale = ShowAll (default)
AlignMode = Blank (default)
SAlign = Blank (default)

(A note on align: I'm not sure which of these actually does alignment -- or
what that setting in the properties dialog box like you see in Flashgeek
really does. So go with the defaults. They're blank like the Flashgeek box
anyway.)

WMode = Window (default)

Playing = True (default)
Loop = True (default)
Menu = True (default)
EmbedMovie = True (change this from False)

Really, I think the only things you have to change are adding the movie path
and changing EmbedMovie to True (assuming you want to embed the SWF, of
course).

Unfortunately, there aren't that many really advanced tutorials and
information sites around. Partly this is because, by the time you get to
where you need really advanced stuff, your question / issue may hinge on the
particulars of your file and project.

The best info I know of about how PPT handles multimedia is at
http://www.playsforcertain.com/tutorial.htm The PFC software (free, fully
functioning trials available) is all very good also -- lets you just insert
your video and be done with it. You don't have to worry about converting to
compatible formats and such because the software does that for you.

As for Flash, I think you know it already! I don't know that there's much
more about inserting Flash into PowerPoint. Well, you might want to grab the
free Flashback add-in if your SWFs aren't rewinding in your presentations.
http://www.mvps.org/skp/ (Note that this add-in must be installed on the
presentation computer, not just the authoring computer.)

Visual Basic? Mmmm, start here with Steve Rindsberg's VBA info:
http://www.pptfaq.com/index.html -- about halfway down the page is a section
called "Programming PowerPoint." This is the first article in that list:
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00033.htm David Markovitz has the only actual PPT
programming book I'm aware of: http://www.PowerfulPowerPoint.com/

Otherwise, I'd say just read this group every day (that's how I got
started!) and ask the questions you need to.
