svchost & wuauclt.exe

Hello all.

This week I have suddenly had a new issue with one of our PC's. Syptoms are
spiking of the CPU at 95-100%. I have used McAffee VirusScan Enterpirse 8.0i
to scan for viruses and spy-bot to search for spyware. Both have reported
clean with the acception of cookies. These symptoms are so severe and
frequent that it makes the PC nearly unusable.

Of course I used Process explorere and found that the updater wuauclt.exe is
the problem.

I have been searching for solutions and so far the only things I have found
are one persons sugestion to change the update settings from Microsoft update
to Windows update. I suppose I could do this but I have to wonder why it
broke suddenly, I have used Microsoft update for a long time.

Another suggestion was that "in other cases wuauclt.exe is a virus or
trojan". If this is possible I wouln't know what else to do since I have
scanned for viruses.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Out of this, I can suggest you to have a look there :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916089/

But as far as I can read (5hrs+) lot of people still having this issue.
and as far as I know, there is 1 temporary solution for this and its to
disable the "automatic updates" services. Disable until you need it.

Another "solution", which I didn't have tested yet, is this :
http://mygreenpaste.blogspot.com/2007/02/more-on-isolating-shared-services-in.html

In other word you separate wuauclt from the svchost so then you'll be able
to lower the priority, therefor, leaves the comp in a usable state.

Hope it helps.
