Please help with removal of this program/possible virus.
I have looked on symantec's site and done everything it says
to do. My Norton's does not pick up a virus but everytime I
restart my computer, sychost.exe causes a problem but I can
not delete it; it always says it can not delete it. Can someone
help please?
Thanks,
Teresa

Try to find the file.Turn off system restore.
Delete the svchost.exe file in the c:\windows\system32\wins directory.

It still tells me access is denied and will not let me delete
it. Any other suggestions?
Thanks,

Hi,
Any running application can NOT be deleted, additionally svchost.exe is
a valid system file IF it is located in c:\windows\system32.
Go through "Start>Search", search for svchost.exe. Note the location of
any files it finds, if other than the above mentioned location, it's
definitely a virus (update your virus def's and scan or do an online scan).

SVCHOST is a generic process which acts as a host for processes that run
from DLLs rather than EXEs. IF only the one occurence of "svchost" shows
up download AdAware and SpyBot Search & Destroy, get their updates, run
them and delete everything they find.

For one thing, it keeps my cable modem from connecting to the internet.
I have to do a control, alt, delete, and go to processes, and end the svchost.exe process before my cable modem will access on-line activity.

if you by chance are running RC-1 it is possibly the problem.
some other things you can try is to turn off any remote services that you have enabled.
like Remote assistance and Remote Update.
also check with the provider for updated drivers.
