svchost.exe problem

Hello,
I posted this question sometime back, but did'nt get any
response.. I am restating my problem below with some more
details..

I am running "Windows 2000 Professional" with "Service
Pack 4". I have all critical updates installed on my PC.
Whenever I start my PC, I get the message, "Cannot find
the file c:\winnt\system32\svchost.exe(or one of its
components). Make sure the path and filename are correct
and that all required libraries are available".

This probably happened due to some virus.. I cleaned some
viruses on my PC with "eTrust EZ Antivirus".. I am also
running "eTrust EZ Firewall". Presently my PC is running
fine, without any viruses except this problem..

I have checked.., the file svchost.exe exists on my PC at
the location, c:\winnt\system32.

Is there a way I can find what's the problem with my system
(i.e. what are the missing components Windows is asking
for while starting, and how can I install them)? I wish to
have this message not popping up while Windows starts.. I
also do not want to re-install Windows. The Event Viewer
is not showing any details about this..

I would appreciate if somebody helps me out... I hope
somebody has the answer!

Regards,
Mukul

Hello Mukul

If your system runs fine except error, this error might be created by a
virus through a vbscript. You need to check out the startup list to find
out if there is any script executing at startup. See the site in signature
for the programs which can examine the startup list.
