svchost.exe error

Hi!

Each time I boot my computer the following error message appears in a window
named â€svchost.exe: Application error†(I am using swedish on my computer,
and my tranlation may not be correct):
"The instruction at â€0x0272280†referenced memory at â€0x0272280â€. The
following error was returned: The memory could not be â€writtenâ€."
After a few seconds another message window, named â€Data executing protection
– Microsoft Windowsâ€, is displayed:
"This program is stopped to protect the computer.
Name: Generic Host Process for Win32 Services"

If I don´t close these windows, the computer in most cases seems to run
properly. Except for one thing: the Windows firewall is not active. If I try
to access the firewall via the control panel the window â€Windows fire wallâ€:
is directly displaying the message:
"It was not possible to show the settings for the Windows fire wall due to
an unidentified problem."
And the firewall can not be activated.

If I close the error windows the computer hangs in most cases and nothing
can be done. For example when I try to shut down the computer and the error
windows has been closed, the computer hangs and the shut down is never
completed.

I run MS Windows XP Home Edision, SP3 on a Fujitsu Siemens computer.
I have run chek disk without errors.
What more can I do? Does anybody have a clue?

Hej!

There is a very good chance are that you are seeing the affects of a
hijackware infection.

1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

2. Run the Windows Live Safety Center's 'Protection' scan (only!) in Safe
Mode with Networking, if need be:
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/howsafe.htm

3. Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting the requested
logs in an appropriate forum, not here.

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Every time you boot? At least it is reproducible.

Look in the Windows Event Viewer for any Warnings (yellow) or Errors
(red) around the time of the problem. If you don't care about old
stuff in the the Event Log you might want to clean it out first to get
a fresh start, then reboot and see what you find there for clues.

Try to write down/post as much information as you can see about the
error message and then use some Google searching for some clues.
Somewhere in the message(s) it might tell you just who is
complaining. Use Google on your Event Viewer messages also.

There are some guidelines here for "what constitues a good post" so
readers can have all the information about your system without asking
so many questions. Somebody will list the details, but I don't have
them handy.

I have a similar error from time to time that seems to be associated
with my Linksys wireless setup. I see it sometimes when starting and
sometimes shutting down Windows. I verified, double checked,
downloaded, reinstalled, safe moded and all that stuff you are
supposed to do and still see it once in a while. Any error annoys
me. Just Canceling it was okay on startup and it will just go away on
its own when shutting down.

Linksys says, "Well, if you don't see any problems in your hardware
Device Manager, then all our stuff is just fine. Next!"
